An Escape into the Mountains

Let’s take a moment to forget about the crazy Christmas rush and escape into the mountains for some much-needed ‘r&r;’ and perhaps even a little daydreaming.
As you can probably tell, from reading my blog, I’m as ‘city girl’ as city girls get. But this concrete jungle does take it’s toll on my asthma and to some extent, my sanity. So right when I got the go signal from my doctor to travel again, it was straight to the mountains for me!

I booked a room at Dahilayan Forest Park and packed my comfiest clothes for a weekend of fresh air, beautiful views, and some adventure just for the thrill of it.
I really must say this place is absolutely beautiful and is the perfect place for a family getaway! The room I got had two queen-sized beds perfectly sized for a family of 4 or 5 with just enough space to move around. What really makes this room amazing though is the fact that you get to wake up to this view every morning.
I was here for 3 days and I stood right at this spot every chance I got. It’s just so rare to be able to appreciate nature’s beauty right outside your room (I’m talking to you, city slickers!).
For those guys who can’t stay in the room the whole time, this place has practically got every activity you can think of! From zorb balls, to picnic grounds, suspended obstacle courses, atv rides, dune buggies and a play ground for the kids.
I obviously couldn’t do it all but I knew I had to try the Luge ride they had which is the only place in the Philippines to have this ride.
It’s actually a lot like tobogganing sans the freezing cold weather, heavy gear, and ice cold noses!
The Luge was just the right amount of adrenaline rush for me – fast, but not too scary! haha! I’m actually quite happy I got to control the speed myself. So I don’t have to rely on some stranger at a machine operating a ride that holds my life in it’s hands! Okay. So I’m a little paranoid… haha!
It’s so much fun the first time that you’ll definitely want to take them up on that second ride offer. 🙂
And just when I thought I was done for the day, my friends had another thing planned – dune buggies around the mountain! *gulp*
That moment when this is in front of you and you kinda just have to say “yolo”.
After getting over my slight hesitation, I channeled my inner ‘Lara Croft’ and pushed the pedal to the metal for the ride of my life! Yeah right. I probably only went 25mph but in my mind I was going 120 so let’s just leave it at that! haha!
Surprisingly, this was a great way to see different views of the mountain! – A better option for those who need a bit more speed. I can see why people get addicted to that adrenaline rush now. We have got to have more of these babies around.
I’ve already recommended this place to 2 of my friends and I think this secret is best shared for I really don’t think we have enough places as beautiful that has something for kids and adults alike. It’s definitely a nice change of pace from all the craziness in Manila and so much more affordable than flying abroad to see the countryside. I’m so happy to know that places like this exist right in our backyard (so to speak). If you’re planning a fun new retreat or just another family getaway, check them out. You might just find what you’re looking for here.
Dahilayan Forest Park brought out the Peter Pan in me and I am definitely going back. 🙂
